Tomato Rice's Origin, Recipe & Health Benefits

 Origin:

Tomato rice, that is made by cooking rice with some spices, herbs and fresh tomatoes, is an primitivist South Indian dish, especially Tamil Nadu. This dish is called "Thakkali Sadam" in Tamil and also present in Sephardi Jewish tradition in the Ottoman Empire.

Elaborating the Origins and variations:

South Indian Origins:

A simple-mouth watering dish, tomato rice is often cooked with tomatoes, spices, and herbs.  In Tamil Nadu, "Thakkali" refers to tomatoes and "Sadam" refers to rice, which explains the dish's main ingredients.

Sephardi Jewish Tradition:

Tomato rice, or "Arroz con Tomato," is also a staple in the Sephardi Jewish community, especially among Turkish and Rhodes Jews, with differences in ingredients used and how it is prepared.
